Pupil Leaders - 23/24

Newcastle Dog and Cat Shelter 2024

We would like to say a massive thank you to all involved in this mazing day. it was fabulous to see the effort some children had gone to, for their costume, with some amazing face painting and hair dyeing.

Thank you for all the generous donations of bedding, toys and food for the cats and dogs. I am sure they and the volunteers will love them.

Tiny Lives charity day 2024

The Pupil Leaders organised a very successful Tiny Lives charity day. We had a brilliant  assembly where one of the volunteers came in and showed the children what stuff prep babies need. they were really amazed that the dummy is used to encourage a perm baby to suckle and not as a pacifier like we would have used.We raised an amazing £310 for the charity. Daniel Oman guessed the correct number of sweets in the jar for his class, which they all loved. Charley Payne won the basket and was so delighted to show her mum. Louise from the charity took a selection of the bookmarks to their centre as they are easily wipeable and can be reused.

 Pupil Leaders

At Monkhouse, we believe in the power of a pupil voice and the active participation of children in the many aspects of school life. We aim to inspire and ignite a passion for change in our local and global community, now and in their future. The children can see how democracy works in their community and see how their actions can affect decisions now and potentially when they are older.

Children from each year group can volunteer to be a Pupil Leader and have to stand for election in front of their peers. Years 1&2 create a poster to show their classmates and then the children vote for who they think will be their best representative. Years 3,4,5&6 create a presentation to deliver to their classes and then the Pupil Leaders are voted for by their peers.

We hold regular meetings where decisions are made, in consultation with their peers, about the charities the children would like to support during the year and issues they would like to focus on. These can include topics such as maintaining a Healthy School status, playground equipment and rules and working.

They have implemented The Golden Table and have held assemblies on healthy pack lunches and hand washing. The Pupil Leaders have collaborated with the local authority to raise awareness of reducing speed around the school area and with the Eco Warriors to increase the children’s knowledge and understanding of water for them and in the global community.

Our Golden Table

Recent charity events have included collecting for the Food Bank, the Harper Asprey Hedgehog charity and Sport Relief
