At Monkhouse, we are always seeking opportunities to enrich our children and engage them in their learning both inside the classroom and outside of it with the inclusion of cross-curricular studies.
During the Summer Term of 2021, our Year 6 children were fortunate enough to be involved in a collaboration with the North Shields Heritologists, where they became involved in two projects: the Digital Dolly project and a play led by the Blowin’ a Hooley Theatre group.
With the support provided through the Heritology Project and their trust funders, our children became immersed in the learning of knowledge and stories of their local heritage, in particular around life on the fish quay.
Following eight hours of coaching and drama workshops delivered by Blowin' a Hooley Theatre, our pupils became the stars of the North East's Hollywood scene and performed on the big stage at The Exchange in North Shields.
We are thankful to the Culture Bridge via the Community Foundation Tyne Wear and Northumberland and the Hadrian Trust for funding this project.
Watch 'Ghosts from the Past' below, which follows the life of a fortunate family, who rose to fame, thanks to the work of local photographer, Lyd Sawyer.

Our team of producers supported the production of a short film that provided a synopsis of our story too.
