Science Week 2nd - 6th June 2025
As part of Science Week, we explored the incredible ways animals have inspired modern-day inventions, from robot guide dogs to drones designed to mimic the flight patterns of birds and insects. Each class had a specific focus.
Bug Man
Science week was given a great start when the Bug Man visited our school and brought a fascinating range of exotic animals, including a python, tarantula, scorpion, and grasshopper. The children were excited and curious, showing great kindness and respect throughout the session, reflecting our school values beautifully. They had the opportunity to learn about each animal, their unique features, and the natural habitats they come from. It was an engaging, educational experience that sparked wonder and deepened their understanding of the natural world.
Space Camp
Year Five pupils embarked on an out-of-this-world adventure as our school hall transformed into a Space Camp for a very special overnight stay. Tents were pitched indoors, sleeping bags rolled out, and the excitement was truly astronomical!
Throughout the evening, pupils immersed themselves in a galaxy of space-themed activities. We explored the phases of the moon using Oreo cookies (and maybe snuck a few bites!), engineered and launched our own rockets, and got creative by designing and crafting flying saucers. Using iPads, we explored the night sky, identifying stars and constellations—without even stepping outside!
No camp would be complete without delicious food, and ours was no exception. We enjoyed a pizza dinner and later gathered around a (safe) fire to make classic marshmallow s’mores. The next morning, a hearty breakfast of cereal and toast gave us the energy we needed to reflect on our incredible experience.
To wrap it all up, we invited parents to a special assembly where pupils proudly shared everything they had learned and created. It was a truly memorable night full of fun, learning, and teamwork—and one giant leap for Year Five!
