Autumn Term

In the Autumn Term, Year 4 focused on the question, ‘Were all good leaders invaders?’ Throughout the course of this project, we studied various leaders, ranging from English kings and Jesus to Hengist and Horsa, two Anglo-Saxon invaders. We discussed at great length what it means to be a successful leader and discovered that sometimes leadership styles must vary depending on the scenario.

We used our interest in the Anglo-Saxons and leadership styles to further develop other aspects of our learning too. We explored the necessities of settlements, designed and sewed an Anglo-Saxon inspired design in addition to creating our own Anglo-Saxon shields.

For our exhibition, we invited parents and carers to demonstrate our knowledge of effective and ineffective leadership styles and traits. We had a variety of activities to demonstrate our learning – we designed our own leader and ranked which leadership qualities we deemed to be most important.
