Dear Nursery & Reception Parent/Carers,
Remote Home Learning Information
Nursery & Reception
Thank you for your support and patience to allow the school staff to be ready to lead remote home learning for your children from Thursday 7th January. These are unsettling times and once again, we must ask that you support your children to learn at home in the best way you possibly can. Routine will be important to the children and we suggest you try to follow the timetable established by the class teacher. This will help you as parents to understand how long each activity is ‘typically expected’ to take.
We anticipate the first few days will be a huge learning curve for many parents but our children are increasingly resilient and digitally confident. There will be some tasks that they should be encouraged to follow independently with minimal adult involvement. If you have issues, our staff are here to support you. Please understand and be patient, they may not be able to respond instantly as they are managing both remote home and in school learning which will not be an easy task.
In EYFS, we have been using Tapestry as a way of communicating and sharing learning with families since your child started at Monkhouse. This has been well used for weekly shared learning and we know parents are confident using this platform. If you do encounter any difficulties in accessing Tapestry, please let us know and we will do our best to help.
All work will be shared via this forum and used to upload videos of modelled learning. In addition, the staff will use ZOOM to offer all children who are not in school a weekly opportunity to chat with their teacher. All class teachers will have their PPA (planning, preparation and assessment) time on Friday afternoon. There won’t be any learning set for children this afternoon. This will be time for children and families to relax and choose what you feel is relevant for your child to do.
We can provide an exercise book to be used for written work and these can be collected from the entrance foyer from Friday 8th January. Please encourage the children to use these as they would in school for the activities suggested. When your book is full, please let us know and a time for you to collect a new one can be arranged or alternatively, use some plain paper.
RECEPTION Reading Books
New reading books can be collected for children with some additional learning resources for use at home. They can be collected from the school entrance foyer from Friday 8th January. They will be in labelled envelopes in year group boxes. Please ensure you follow appropriate social distance guidance when collecting them to keep everyone as safe as possible. Please continue to enjoy the story books you have with your child at home. The more you read to them, the better their language and vocabulary development will be.
We are incredibly grateful to those parents who are managing their child’s learning from home. I know this will not be easy for many who are juggling your own work and supporting your children. Please take care of yourselves and family and we look forward to seeing you all back in school soon.
Thank you for your continued support.
